About Stephen

Stephen became interested in ventriloquism at a young age. He received his first dummy for Christmas when he was seven years old. Like many kids, though, his interests changed many times and soon the dummy lay forgotten at the bottom of the toy box.

At 11 the Magic Bug bit Stephen and soon he was performing at other kids birthday parties and at Senior Centers around his hometown.

He got involved in the local ring of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and there met many other magicians and variety entertainers. Throughout his teen years this group, The Nashville Magic Club, was instrumental in helping Stephen develop his skills as a performer and discover for himself his own unique style.

At 18 he was elected the youngest ever president of the local assembly of the Society of American Magicians, a post he held for two years.

When he was 19 Stephen rediscovered ventriloquism. In the back of   “The Linking Ring” magazine he found an ad for The Maher Course, a home-study course in ventriloquism. Stephen got the course for Christmas, just like that first dummy years before, and by the following March was working in nightclubs as a ventriloquist.

In the many years since that time Stephen’s career has taken him all over the world, performing on cruise ships, in theatre’s and on Television. He appeared on “The Statler Brothers Show” on TNN. He has worked for many corporate clients, including Nissan, Emerson Electric, The National Association of Broadcasters and The Tennessee Valley Authority. For the last seven years Stephen has been performing nightly at The Comedy Barn Theater.

In addition to performing Stephen also teaches ventriloquism. In the past he has lectured multiple times at The Vent Haven Convention , The International Festival of Christian Puppetry and Ventriloquism and in Germany many times as a part of Bauchrednerkurs, a beginner ventriloquism course organized by his good friend Dr. Stefan “Stevo” Schüling .

Stephen has also been a featured performer at these same events as well as at conventions for the International Brotherhood of Magicians, The South Eastern Association of Magicians, The International Ventriloquist Association in Las Vegas, The Winter Carnival of Magic, Kidabra and many others.
